I dont think my system is allowing it to use its full bandwidth, but its about twice as fast regardless.Installation was a bit of a bear. I used the Crucial P5 to replace a slower NVME drive in my laptop. I am reviewing the whole experience because while I believe hardware is good, its limited by the tools given to the user. Only time will tell how reliable it is, but it is covered with a limited 5 year warranty against defects. The reason I am disappointed with the software is because Crucial gives you access to Acronis True Image for Crucial so that you can clone your disk, HOWEVER, they assume you have multiple internal disks in your computer… So what happens is Acronis does not work unless you have the Crucial SSD already installed, and you can transfer the image over to it directly.I was upgrading from a smaller NVMe to this larger Crucial one, and so I only had 1 NVMe slot, so needless to say, it was a pain to copy it you may need an NVMe enclosure or create an image of your OS on a USB.With all that said, I am happy with the drive after all. The results are clear, the Crucial delivers and it does it well. I was pleased with the performance of the NVMe SSD itself, but the process of installing my OS on it was a hassle.I used CrystalDiskMark 7.0 to benchmark the SSD see image, and just for comparison, I also uploaded an image of my older and smaller NVMe SSD from 2017. CrucialMicron, WD and Samsung have been my go to for memorystorage since the early days of the i486 and I still consider them to be top of the tier when it comes to computer components and can recommend them without hesitation to anyone looking to upgrade or add to their storage needs. At the price that 1TB NVMe drives have dropped I may just pick up another drive all together. I have even considered getting an external enclosure for the SSD and use it as a massive thumb drive. I generally do not pay attention to readwrite speed tests and prefer seeing how fast I can writepull various data files tofrom the drive in real world scenarios. I see no downfall of using this as a storage drive versus using it as an OS drives with the speeds I am seeing. A 30gb folder containing videos and pictures took just over 40 seconds to transfer to the new drive without the software and about 40 seconds with the software. I was off loading files off the OS drive I did not need, such as downloaded mediamovies for my daughters entertainment kit. I dont ever recall ever seeing a M.2 drive being supplied with these. It handles transfers ridiculously fast even without the crucial storage executive tool. MOST motherboards capable of accepting M.2 drives will already come with a standoff and screw. It literally took longer to get the bottom cover plate off my laptop and install this drive. If you need the space, you dont have to think twice about this drive.Installation is easier than getting into the laptop. So the extra 1TB of space is a welcome addition. And my laptop has a spare bay for a second M.2 drive. The 500gb also M.2 NVMe SSD space on my laptop was getting filled up rather quickly with work related stuff since working from home.
